Story:
Shortly after Peyton Manning signed with the Broncos, the Mile High franchise dealt Tim Tebow to the New York Jets. Whats interesting is that Tebow had a choice of Jacksonville or New York. Keep in mind he grew up in Jacksonville and played his college ball at the University of Florida. Why did he pick New York? I think it was the best way to expand his "brand" and his faith. In New York there is no doubt he will end up in the top 5 of jersey sales and of course be in the news daily.
The Broncos also sent a 7th round pick and received a 4th and 6th round pick in this year's draft from the Jets. The Jaguars offered to pay more of Tebow's remaining salary and they had a higher 4th round pick to offer but Elway asked Tebow to weigh in on where he wants to go and it became apparent New York was the preferred destination of the young QB.
Fantasy Impact:
Tebow seems to have lost some value by moving to the Jets, of course his value dropped anyways in Denver because of Manning. Mark Sanchez will be the starter (barring injury or something crazy) and Tebow will fill more of an H back role early in the year. If he was in Denver he would be the #2 and with Manning's neck concerns Tebow still had a chance to see the field this year. The interesting thing is that Tebow qualifies at QB but will act more as a running back and/or receiver. If your in a deep league he warrants a late look with the possibility to take over mid season or be used as trade bait. My Projections: Tebow will start 2 games this year. For the other 14 games he will play 12-15 plays per game in the "Wildcat".
For the rest of the skill players in New York I don't see much value change at the present time. This acquisition doesn't alter Sanchez's value on the draft day either.... yet.
What's next for Jacksonville?
My guess is that within the next 4 years or whenever they feel like breaking their stadium lease the franchise will move to LA. I think the Los Angeles fans are craving a football team and hopefully within 4 years or so Gabbert will be near elite and the rest of the squad is decent enough to compete. This is just my personal guess nobody but the new owner will decide on the future fate of the Jaguars.
