Pekka Rinne vs. Jonathan Quick
Breaking down these two goalies after they arguably had their career best seasons is more or less a tale of two teams with different strengths and weaknesses. The Los Angeles Kings averaged scoring 2.3 goals per game which ranked them 29th worst in the regular season. They were the 2nd best team when it came to goals against per game with 2.1. The Predators weren't far behind, being ranked 8th in the league with a 2.5 goals against average. However, the Predators did manage to score 2.8 goals per match up ranking them 8th in that department. It is clear that the Kings had to have great goaltending in order to win this year because they aren't as gifted offensively as Nashville. Nashville's goalie Pekka Rinne won many of his games in blowout fashion and wasn't put in many pressure pack scenarios. Quick on the other hand had to be extremely efficient because his team wouldn't be able to bail him out for even the slightest mistake. Here is my breakdown of these two net minders entering next season.
Jonathan Quick LA
Quick played in 22 games decided in overtime or a shootout. In those 22 games his Kings won only 9 of them. However the Kings only scored more than 3 goals in 3 of the 22 games. He was not given adequate offensive support but in most cases didn't need more than 2 goals to win. Quick finished with a 35-21 record. He had a 1.95 goals against average (2nd in the NHL) and stopped 92.9% of shots (5th in the NHL). Quick, who was just that, accumulated 10 shutouts
