Fantasy Hockey Keeper Debates
Vladimir Tarasenko vs. Jamie Benn
Vladimir Tarasenko took a major step towards stardom last season putting up 73 points (37 goals and 36 assists) and a +27 rating (fifth highest in NHL among non-Defensemen). The 23 year old Russian was a highly touted prospect and most hockey analysts knew it was only a matter of time before he became a star.
That time came sooner rather than later as the Blues got him on track early and often. Vladimir put up 47 points before the All Star break last year (46 games). Although he slowed down quite a bit after the All Star game he still managed to put up 26 points in 31 games. Tarasenko should be viewed as a Top 20 Fantasy keeper. |
Another sure-fire Top 20 Fantasy keeper is Jamie Benn. Benn put up a career high 87 points last year (35 goals and 52 assists). Jamie also put up 64 PIM for the second consecutive season. The 25 year old Left Winger managed to score 10 Power Play goals last year as well - which was just as many as Sidney Crosby, David Backes, Jeff Carter, Sean Monahan, Ryan Callahan and Brock Nelson had.
This is a close one but I'd rather test my luck with Tarasenko and hope he can continue where he left of last year. On a side note, I'd prefer to have Benn's teammate Tyler Seguin over both Benn and Tarasenko.
