Early 2012-2013 Fantasy Basketball Rankings

As we approach the start of the 2012-2013 NBA season I will rank my Top 80 players. I want to give you an early idea of what to expect from a fantasy perspective. This has no Keeper Ranking values attached, just one year value only. At some point this year I will release Keeper Rankings but for now you'll have to live with this. Feel free to comment on the bottom of the page with questions or contact me directly on Twitter @Awies28. Why 80? I wanted to do 75 but then I wouldn't be able to talk about Jeremy Lin.

Here's a quick recap of the Dwight Howard deal to the Lakers. In short I think the move helped Andrew Bynum's fantasy value more because he now becomes the number one offensive option in Philadelphia. Pau Gasol will also see an increase in numbers due to the double team "Superman" will require on a near nightly basis. The Lakers are my early favorite to win it all.

Are you curious as to why I have Durant number one over LeBron? It's pretty simple; I prefer Durant's ability to knock down three's consistently over LeBron's ability to get a few more assists. Assists are one of those categories that can be taken care of with a mid round selection of a Steve Nash or Tony Parker.

I'm also really high on DeMarcus Cousins this season. Check out Interesting Fact #38 from last year to see why. Also be sure to read my Keeper Breakdown between Cousins and Marc Gasol

16. Paul Millsap - PF, UTAH
17. Kobe Bryant - SG, LAL
18. LaMarcus Aldridge - PF/C, POR
19. Rudy Gay - SF, MEM
20. Rajon Rondo - PG, BOS
21. Carmelo Anthony - SF/PF, NY
22. John Wall - PG, WSH
23. Kyrie Irving - PG, CLE

25. James Harden - SG, OKC
26. Brandon Jennings - PG, MIL
27. Al Horford - C/PF, ATL
28. Serge Ibaka - C/PF, OKC
29. Monta Ellis - PG/SG, MIL
30. Goran Dragic - PG, PHO

I have Rudy Gay as a sleeper MVP candidate so it made sense to keep him in my Top 20 entering the season. Serge Ibaka averaged 3.65 blocks per game last season, the next highest was the 2.18 from JaVele McGee.

Here are some other Keeper Breakdowns entering the season you may have interest in:
Lawson vs. Wall
Granger vs. Gay

31. Marcin Gortat - C, PHO
32. Steve Nash - PG, LAL
33. Danny Granger - SF, IND
34. Greg Monroe - PF/C, DET
35. David Lee - PF/C, GS
36. Blake Griffin - PF, LAC
37. Tony Parker - PG, SA
38. Ryan Anderson - PF, NO
39. Andre Iguodala - SF/SG, DEN
40. Roy Hibbert - C, IND
41. Paul Pierce - SF/SG, BOS

I know Griffin was somewhat of a bust last season (ADP Top 15) but I'm not ready to write him off yet. In my eyes he'll be a player that can contribute with a high field goal percentage, rebounds and points. He will hurt your Free Throw percentage as evidence in last season's 52.1% as opposed to his 54.9% from the field. He's a player to own if you know how to balance out your roster in the later rounds.

51. Amare Stoudemire - C/PF, NY
52. Anthony Davis - PF/C, NO
53. Joakim Noah - C/PF, CHI
54. Nicolas Batum - SF/SG, POR
55. Ricky Rubio - PG, MIN
56. Tyreke Evans - PG/SG/SF, SAC
57. Jrue Holiday - PG, PHI
58. Luol Deng - SF, CHI
59. Manu Ginobili - SG, SA
60. Danilo Gallinari - SF/PF, DEN
61. Andrea Bargnani - C/PF, TOR
62. Zach Randolph - PF, MEM
63. Ersan Ilyasova - SF/PF, MIL
64. Tyson Chandler - C, NY
65. Glen Davis - PF/C, ORL

Entering his second full season with the Nuggets I fully expect Gallinari to blossom along side Andre Iguodala. The European sharpshooter, if healthy, will have a lot of opportunities to knock down jumpers in the high pace Nuggest's offense led by Ty Lawson and Head Coach George Karl.

66. Kris Humphries - PF, BKN
67. Arron Afflalo - SG, ORL
68. Kenneth Faried - PF, DEN
69. Carlos Boozer - PF, CHI
70. Nene Hilario - C/PF, WSH
71. Tim Duncan - PF/C, SA
72. Lou Williams - PG/SG, ATL
73. Derrick Rose - PG, CHI
74. Brook Lopez - C, BKN
75. Kyle Lowry - PG, TOR
76. Andrew Bogut - C, GS
77. Jeremy Lin - PG, HOU
78. O.J. Mayo - SG, DAL
79. Kevin Martin - SG, HOU
80. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - SF, CHA

It's pretty easy to say Jeremy Lin will be 100% owned this year in Fantasy Basketball leagues but it's important to know why. Lin will lead a revamped Rockets roster that includes Kevin Martin, Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons and rookies Royce White and Terrence Jones. I gave Houston an A grade for this year's past draft, especially for the White pick.

I will begin work on my Fantasy Basketball Draft Guide in the coming weeks.

Hi, I'm in a keepers league and have Rose on my team. My other potential keepers are Love, Dragic, Lowry, Monroe, Iggy.

There are 12 teams in total and a 9 cat league. Is Rose worth keeping? Or asked another way, do you think rose is a top 48 keeper?

Thanks.

I think he'll be a top 20 player when he's healthy. That being said Rose may not play at all this season so by keeping him you take the risk of not having him play until 2014 or late 2013. If you can afford that risk go for it.

In your case I think Love, Dragic, Monroe and Iguodala are a great group to keep. Well balanced statistically
