Mr. Fantasy Freak

Five Potential Stars From Each Division:
AL East

Brett Lawrie- This young third baseman is a fan-favorite in Toronto, and for good reason. He has shown the ability to hit for average (.290), power (27 extra base hits), and steal bases (12) in just his second season, first full, in the Major Leagues. His defense has also been sensational, and his arm strength is one of the tops in the game from any position.
Ivan Nova- In just his second full season in the majors, Nova has picked up wher he left off in 2011 (16-4, 3.70 ERA, 98 K). This season has brought a little more reasonable numbers, but the 10-3 mark has really helped the Bombers with the injuries to veteran lefties C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettite. With another youngster in Phil Hughes struggling to find consistency, Nova has upped his game and already has 100 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched. He only has 33 walks but his 17 home runs given up leave a a black eye on an otherwise successful season.

Will Middlebrooks- This top Red Sox prospect has came up and produced right away, never looking back. When Middlebrooks walked into Fenway, it seemed that incumbent third baseman Kevin Youkilis was going to be expendable, and he was. The young star-in-the-making is batting .301 with 11 home runs and 41 driven in. He needs to improve on his walks, only taking 9 to this point. But the upside is great, and he is in the discussion for Rookie of the Year, although I think we all know who is in line for that right now in the AL.

Jake McGee- Yes, the Jake McGee that is pitching out of the bullpen for the Tampa Bay Rays. I just feel like he has so much potential, too much to keep in the bullpen forever. The big lefty has done very well for manager Joe Madden out of the 'pen, posting a 2-2 record, with a 1.82 ERA in 39 games. His 33 punchouts in just 29.2 innings pitched are also attractive. Eventually, he will earn a spot in the rotation with other intimidating lefties David Price and Matt Moore.

Wei-Yin Chen- The rookie sensation for the Baltimore Orioles has done very well in a tough division. His 7-5 record, matched with a 3.80 ERA is more than could be asked of the 26-year-old from Taiwan. Will he keep this up for years to come? We'll find out. But he has a chance to be a really reliable starter for a long time.
