Astros Moving On
The Houston Astros finally got rid of outfielder/first baseman Carlos Lee. He agreed to waive his no-trade clause to accept a trade to the Miami Marlins. A catalyst in Houston's lineup since 2007, Lee was traded to the Marlins for prospect third baseman Matt Dominguez and pitcher Rob Rassmussen.
I think this move maks sense for both clubs. Starting with Miami, I think Lee will fit in nicely at first base. Gaby Sanchez hasn't produced this year at all (.194 avg, 2 HR). Logan Morrison, an outfielder, has even had playing time at first base. This move solidifes the position for the Marlins. They get a proven hitter with pop. Lee, a career .286 hitter, has 354 home runs. In his tenior with the Astros, he hit .287 with 133 home runs and 533 RBI's.
As for Houston, they get a top prospect at third base, where Chris Johnson hasn't really panned out to what they thought he would be. Dominguez got a small taste last year in The Show, where he batted .244 with 2 RBI's in 17 games. In Triple-A this season, he is batting .234 with 7 home runs and 46 RBI's. The 22-year-old could see some time at the big league level, with the Astros not contending this season.
