We're beginning to see who is for real and who is a fake. There is some surprising moves up and down my ranks this week, I'm interested to hear what you have to say. The quickest way to get a hold of me is through twitter @Awies28
June 7th Pitcher Ranks
1. Justin Verlander DET (1)
2. Clayton Kershaw LAD (3)
3. Cole Hamels PHI (4)
4. Matt Cain SF (5)
5. Cliff Lee PHI (6)
Lee, still winless, has the numbers that should have him in the Cy Young running. A 2.92 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP should be the numbers of a 8 game winner not someone who is 0-3. He gets to face Baltimore this Sunday.
6. CC Sabathia NYY (10)
7. Felix Hernandez SEA (7)
8. Stephen Strasburg WSH (9)
9. Jered Weaver LAA (2)
10. David Price TB (11)
I'm not as worried about the Weaver back injury as others are. I still think he'll manage to start 27 games this year. This is the time that CC Sabathia begins his annual streak of greatness. He manages his body as well as any 290 plus pounder can and although he's thrown over 100 pitches in each start this year, I think he'll be healthy at season's end.
11. Zack Greinke MIL (8)
12. Gio Gonzalez WSH (13)
13. Madison Bumgarner SF (15)
14. Yu Darvish TEX (12)
15. Brandon Beachy ATL (16)
16. Dan Haren LAA (22)
17. Jordan Zimmermann WAS (19)
18. James Shields TB (18)
Keep an eye on Yu Darvish in the summer heat in Texas. He's been a dome pitcher nearly his whole life so this will be the biggest adjustment he'll have to make.
19. C.J. Wilson LAA (20)
20. Brandon Morrow TOR (23)
21. Ricky Romero TOR (24)
22. Ian Kennedy ARI (25)
23. Adam Wainwright STL (34)
24. Anibal Sanchez MIA (22)
25. Jake Peavy CHW (26)
I've told you a long time ago (It was like 3 weeks ago) to buy low on Wainwright. He continues to climb my rankings.
26. Johnny Cueto CIN (28)
27. Matt Garza CHC (17)
28. Jeremy Hellickson TB (29)
29. Johan Santana NYM (32)
30. Shaun Marcum MIL (35)
31. Jon Lester BOS (27)
32. James McDonald PIT (45)
33. Matt Latos CIN (39)
34. Yovani Gallardo MIL (30)
James McDonald has a 2.14 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 5-2 record for the Pirates. The Buckos may make some noise in the NL Central this summer but it starts with McDonald. Also, keep an eye on Matt Garza I think he could be traded within the next two months.
35. Tommy Hanson ATL (38)
36. Josh Johnson MIA (36)
37. Daniel Hudson ARI (37)
38. Josh Beckett BOS (33)
39. Colby Lewis TEX (42)
40. Wandy Rodriguez HOU (31)
41. Chris Sale CHW (46)
42. Max Scherzer DET (48)
43. Matt Moore TB (NR)
44. Tim Hudson ATL (41)
45. Jeff Samardzija CHC (NR)
46. Andy Pettite NYY (NR)
Yes that's right, Pettitte is in my top 50. Through 5 starts, the soon to be 40 year old, has a 1.77 BB/9 rate and a 57.9 ground ball rate. Chris Sale, Jeff Samardzija and Matt Moore are three young pitchers that appear to be putting it all together. I think they are for real.
47. Tim Lincecum SF (47)
48. Roy Halladay PHI (14)
49. R.A. Dickey NYM (NR)
50. Lance Lynn STL (40)
I've talked a lot about Lincecum this year so I'm going to focus on someone new. R.A. Dickey is 8-1 and has a 2.69 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP despite being a knuckle baller. His success has come from stranding runners on base, he has a 82.9 strand rate.
