Mock 1.0
I promised myself I would take 2 months off from writing any basketball articles. That was short lived for one reason: I love mock drafts. This Thursday marks the start of the NBA Draft. It is projected as one of the more deeper classes in recent memory. I'm not sure I'm buying that. Let's take a quick look at my 2012 NBA Mock Draft.
1. Anthony Davis PF Kentucky - New Orleans Hornets Carmen Electra is my number one on every other list out there, but Davis holds the top spot in my mock. 2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist SF Kentucky - Charlotte Bobcats 3. Bradley Beal SG Florida - Washington Wizards 4. Harrison Barnes SF North Carolina - Cleveland Cavaliers 5. Thomas Robinson PF Kansas - Sacramento Kings Look out for the Sacramento Kings. I love their future with Cousins, Evans and now possibly Robinson. 6. Andre Drummond C Connecticut - Portland Trailblazers 7. Dion Waiters PG Syracuse - Golden State Warriors I wouldn't be shocked to see the Warriors trade down but Waiters would seemingly fit the back court mold playing with Stephen Curry. 8. Damian Lillard PG Weber State - Toronto Raptors Jose Calderon is a free agent after the season, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a Laker uniform by the trade deadline (talking about Calderon not Lillard). 9. Austin Rivers SG Duke - Detroit Pistons A lot of "analysts" think Rivers will be a bust. I say playing behind Rodney Stuckey will do him some good. 10. Meyers Leonard C Illinois - New Orleans Hornets 11. John Henson PF North Carolina - Portland Trailblazers I think Nicolas Batum will be on the trading block all season, Henson makes sense. 12. Terrence Jones PF Kentucky - Milwaukee Bucks 13. Terrence Ross SG/SF Washington - Phoenix Suns 14. Perry Jones PF Baylor - Houston Rockets 15. Tyler Zellar C North Carolina - Philadelphia 76ers 16. Jared Sullenger PF Ohio State - Houston Rockets I think the Rockets would take a chance on him despite his questionable back issues. If nothing else, he's trade material for Pau Gasol. 17. Jeremy Lamb SG Connecticut - Dallas Mavericks It would be hard to see Lamb fall this far but he would make the Mavericks a legit title contender again. 18. Moe Harkless SF St. Johns - Minnesota If the Timberwolves don't draft a center look for them to make a run at free agent veteran Kevin Garnett. I think KG would love to finish his career back in Minnesota. 19. Royce White SF Iowa State - Orlando Magic Orlando will have a lot of questions to answer about Dwight Howard. This pick denotes who I think the best player on the board will be at the 19th spot. 20. Marquis Teague PG Kentucky - Denver Nuggets I know they have Ty Lawson and Andre Miller will probably resign but Teague is a rare talent you can't pass up. 21. Quincy Miller SF Baylor - Boston Celtics 22. Draymond Green SF Michigan State - Boston Celtics With questions surrounding KG, Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass, I think the Celtics with try to become more versatile with these 2 picks. 23. Kendall Marshall PG North Carolina - Atlanta Hawks 24. Arnett Moultrie PF Mississippi State - Cleveland Cavaliers 25. Tony Wroten Jr. PG Washington - Memphis Grizzles Just adding some depth with this pick. The Grizzlies are my sleeper team to come out of the Western Conference this year. 26. Fab Melo C Syracuse - Indiana Pacers I love this pick. I'm thinking the Pacers will give the Heat and Bulls a run for their money again in 2013. 27. Andrew Nicholson PF St. Bonaventure - Miami Heat If Fab Melo falls to Miami they would grab him, no questions asked. In this mock I think Nicholson is a good fit in Miami. 28. Tyshawn Taylor PG Kansas - Oklahoma City Thunder Just adding some dynamic depth behind Russ Westbrook. 29. Will Barton SG Memphis - Chicago Bulls 30. Evan Fournier SG France - Golden State Warriors |
Just missing the first round:
Jeff Taylor SF Vanderbilt
Jared Cunningham SG Oregon State
John Jenkins SG Vanderbilt
Mike Scott PF Virginia
Kim English SF Missouri
Doron Lamb SG Kentucky
Festus Ezeli C Vanderbilt
Possible New Orleans Starting 5:
PF: Anthony Davis
C: Meyers Leonard
PG: Greivis Vasquez
SG: Eric Gordon
SF: Al-Farouq Aminu
Is the new look New Orleans Hornets a playoff contender in 2013? 2014?
