The Start of Interleague Play
This weekend will mark the start of interleague play this year. On Friday, May 18th, there will be an NL vs. AL weekend series. In June there will be a full interleague schedule of the Senior Circuit taking on the American League but, this weekend will be an exciting preview to say the least. If your an owner of a big name DH, this weekend will have a major effect on your fantasy team. If your a David Ortiz, Adam Dunn, Michael Young or Kendrys Morales owner you may lose some at bats. If your an owner of Chris Heisey, Garret Jones or someone else who is in a platoon split, in the NL, they'll most likely receive some extra AB's, adding to their value.
Notable interleague match ups for this weekend:
5/18-5/20
Cincinnatti Reds @ New York Yankees
With the Reds acquiring a DH spot in the lineup, look for Chris Heisey to get the nod against Andy Pettite (Friday), Ivan Nova (Saturday), and CC Sabathia (Sunday).
5/18-5/20
Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies
Jonathan Papelbon gets to face his old team, that is, if the Phillies can score enough runs. Looking at this Red Sox rotation, I'd say he will get his save opportunities. Keep in mind David Ortiz will not be in the lineup as the team loses the DH spot. He will probably receive a pinch hit opportunity in every game.
5/18-5/20
Chicago White Sox @ Chicago Cubs
The crosstown rivalry will stir up some emotion from these two sub-500 teams. Adam Dunn will lose his spot in the lineup unless Robin Ventura decides to give Paul Konerko a day off at some point in the series.
5/18-5/20
Los Angeles Angels @ San Diego Padres
If Pujols struggled hitting the ball out of the park prior to this weekend, the trip down to the cavernous Petco park won't make things easier. I do think the value of every Angels pitcher takes a tremendous step forward. Maybe Jered Weaver (Starts Friday, the 18th) flirts with another no hitter?
5/18-5/20
St. Louis Cardinals @ Los Angeles Dodgers
The only NL vs. NL match up this weekend happens to be a battle of two first place teams. The Cardinals will have to go up against Lilly, Kershaw and Billingsley. The Cards counter with Lynn, Westbrook and Lohse.
