First Base: Bryan LaHair, Chi C. The 29-year old was brought up to basically be a stop-gap until prospect Anthony Rizzo was ready. I think Theo Epstein just ran into a beautiful disaster. .352 AVG, 10 HR, 21 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Paul Konerko, Chi W.
Second Base: Jose Altuve, Hou. This young man is the real deal. Will he ever hit for power, though? Who cares? The kid is an on-base machine. .309 AVG, 2 HR, 13 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Omar Infante, Mia.
Third Base: David Wright, NYM. Wright has all the talent in the world and this is what he is capable of if healthy. Am I saying he will end up with a .400 batting average? Nope. But CLOSE. He also has walked 22 times this year so far. .408 AVG, 4 HR, 21 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Mike Moustakas, KC.
Shortstop: Starlin Castro, Chi C. Man, is this kid something special? He is an automatic killer at the plate and on the base paths. He will be an elite player for many years to come. .331 AVG, 1 HR, 22 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Derek Jeter, NYY.
Left Field: Josh Hamilton, Tex. Josh Hamilton is the best player in the game. That being said, I still do not think he has reached his peak on talent. That is scary.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Braun, Mil.
Center Field: Adam Jones, Bal. What? Did you think I was going with Bryce Harper yet? Adam Jones is a stud. He has had his problems with tapping into his talent in years past, but he is still young and finally putting it altogether. .302 AVG, 11 HR, 23 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Matt Kemp, LAD.
Right Field: Jay Bruce, Cin. With all of the press surrounding Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce has put together an impressive young career. He is as exciting a player as there is in the game, and he is still in his mid-20’s. .300 BA, 10 HR, 26 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: Carlos Beltran, STL.
Designated Hitter: Edwin Encarnacion, Tor. We did not see this kind of production while E5 was in Cincinatti. He has unbelievable power in a very powerful line up. .270 AVG, 12 HR, 31 RBI’s.
Honorable Mention: David Ortiz, Bos.
Starting Pitcher: Jared Weaver, LAA. This guy has been really good the last few years. There are not many true ace pitchers in the game. Jared Weaver is one of them. Sorry Jeff, but your little brother is better. 5-1, 2.83 ERA, 49 K’s.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Dempster, Chi C.
Relief Pitcher: Jonathon Broxton, KC. Broxton, who was picked up on a one-year deal, has regained his past success he enjoyed with the Dodgers. His fastball is back up in the 90’s, and his ERA is back down in “elite land”. 0-1, 1.32 ERA, 8 SV.
Honorable Mention: Fernando Rodney, Tampa.
