On Tuesday we learned the fate of Philadelphia's ace Roy Halladay. There are a handful of other top end pitchers dealing with some type of ailment (hence the title) right now. Here's a quick look at some hurt hurlers ("hurt hurlers" was my second choice for the title).
Roy Halladay PHI
He'll miss 6-8 weeks with a lat strain. He's been dealing with this all year, which would explain his season long struggle of a 3.98 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 4-5 record. Yes, that is considered a struggling season for the 35 year old. The Phillies may turn to Dave Bush or Tyler Cloyd from triple A to replace him. If your a fantasy owner, look to grab the following: Daniel Hudson ARI, James McDonald PIT, R.A. Dickey NYM and/or Ryan Vogelsong SF.
Jered Weaver LAA
He has officially been placed on the DL with a lower back strain. This means that he was enduring spasms, inflammation and a lot of pain while pitching. Initial timetable for his return is roughly 15 days meanings that he will miss at least three starts.
Yu Darvish TEX
The Japanese import has been amazing this year with a 3.25 ERA, 66 K's and a 7-2 record. Darvish is dealing with a stiff back due to a flu bug in the Texas locker room. They must have found the RAID (product placement) because he is on track to make his next start.
Tim Lincecum SF
I think there is something wrong with the freak. I don't know if it's his elbow, shoulder, back, legs or head but if he ends up in the bullpen or in another uniform, I wouldn't be surprised. Here's my last Pitcher Ranks if you want some more advice on Big Time Timmy Jim.
Free Agent Signing
Roy Oswalt has signed with the Texas Rangers like I had previously mentioned here. He's worth a look in your fantasy league if your in need of wins but, he isn't the strikeout pitcher he once was and pitching in Arlington is no Citizen's Bank Park.
*After Oswalt makes some rehab starts, he'll replace Scott Feldman in the rotation once Neftali Feliz makes his return from the DL.
Position Players Injury Notes
Dustin Pedroia BOS
He jammed his thumb 3 weeks ago and has been dealing with it ever since. He may land on the DL but, my guess is that he'll receive a few days off before returning to that potent lineup.
*There was one report that he could miss up to one month, but because I own him in a keeper league I'm trying to stay optimistic.
Austin Jackson DET
There will be a delay in his return from the DL as Jackson isn't doing baseball activities yet. He'll be re evaluated once the team returns to Detroit.
Jonathan Lucroy MIL
He's going to miss 4-6 weeks with a broken hand. A big hit to us who picked him up while he was on his hot streak. Other FA catchers to look at: A.J. Pierzynski CHW, A.J. Ellis LAD and/or Jarrod Saltalamacchia BOS.
