Bounty Gate Suspensions
The suspensions have finally come down and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did not go lightly on the major players in the bounty system. A total of four players have been suspended for a total of 31 games in 2012. The harshest of the suspensions was given to Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Vilma has been suspended for the entire 2012 season and although I'm sure he will appeal I don't think Goodell with change his mind. Packers' defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove has been suspended for the first 8 games of the season. Saints defensive end Will Smith will miss the first 4 games of the season and linebacker Scott Fujita will miss the first 3 games of the season. Fujita is now with the Cleveland Browns. All of these players have been suspended without pay even though I think they have enough in their bank accounts to fall back on.
In addition to the players, Goodell also suspended Saints GM Mickey Loomis 8 games, assistant coach Joe Vitt for 6 games, and head coach Sean Payton for the entire season. New Rams defensive coordinator Greg Williams was suspended indefinitely by Goodell the same time Payton received his punishment.
