Bryce Harper Called Up

Bryce Harper, 19, has officially been called up by the Washington Nationals. He will take the roster spot of recently DL'd third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Harper's slash line at triple A was .250/.333/.357 in 72 at bats. Harper only played 20 games so far this year and it's clear the Nats don't want to wait any longer. Harper's upside is tremendous but it all comes down to one simple question. Are you a believer? Personally I'm not as big of a believer as you may think. I do own Harper in one league this year, I used the #1 waiver claim on him after I was hit with the injury bug (I own Crawford, Morse, and Chris Young). Harper will make his debut this Saturday against the Dodgers and pitcher Chad Billingsley. As soon as news hit of Harper's call up I received a handful of text messages about the promotion. My favorite was "he is hitting .250 in aaa its dumb" and "its going to be a confidence taker if he gets the hat trick" both of these are valid points made by podcast listener Brett from California. Brett brings up a good point as Harper's confidence is key moving forward. He was only hitting .250 in triple A. If I had to compare Harper to a current major league outfielder, at least for this season, it would be B.J. Upton. I think if Harper is available in your fantasy league you need to go pick him up just because everyone wants to own the big name prospect. I'm selling high but there's always a chance he puts it all together and plays like "The Kid" Ken Griffey Jr.
